The imposing Baroque façade of Villa Guicciardini Corsi Salviati, surrounded by the magnificence of its garden, leaves a distinctive mark on the territory of Sesto Fiorentino and is one of the most remarkable examples in the history of the agricultural properties of noble Florentine families. At the beginning of the fifteenth century, it was the Medici who began this new relationship with the countryside surrounding the city, a relationship that from then on was no longer only agricultural, but became one of country leisure and the pursuit of delights, with all the great families soon following their example.
This Villa is inextricably linked to the history of the Corsi family, who bought an estate and “a manor house” here in 1503. From this moment and for the next five centuries, the Corsi family continued to invest in this place with the aim of transforming this “house” and its garden into one of the most significant villas in the Florentine countryside.
The name of the Villa today includes the names of no fewer than three great families: the Corsi family, who shaped its history, the Salviati family, whose name and inheritance passed to the Corsi family in 1796 when the main branch of that family died out, and the Guicciardini family, which was added when Giulio Guicciardini, grandson of Marquis Bardo Corsi Salviati and the last male descendant of his family, inherited the title, property and family names.
The Villa with its combination of architecture, interior décor and garden with sculptural decoration is of outstanding significance in the history of the villas of the Florentine aristocracy.
